Pharos

Adding immeasurable value to research for a wide range of art-historical research topics.

Industry: Cultural Heritage & Preservation

Time: 2 years

Type: Semantics & Software Development

Project Idea

The PHAROS ArtResearch project focused on the integration of databases from different cultural heritage institutions around the world and the transformation into an enriched, semantic big-database. This project resulted from the modern need for providing rich visual and textual material held in a semantic database of historical photo archives, accessible to a global community of researchers. Photo archives were transformed into crucial factors for students, researchers of art history, curators, dealers and global community. Through digitisation, a large number of unpublished and unique archives opened up, giving access to large collections and creating connections between them. The PHAROS platform aimed to become a springboard and to produce a new reality regarding art research.
